Pre installation procedure:
Follow the steps given below to backup your data before upgrading from Tally 6.3 to Tally 7.2.
| 1. | Run Tally 6.3 and for each company: |
| · | Print the Statistics Page (Display > Statements of Accounts > Statistics) |
| 2. | Take a Tally data backup of the existing data using Tally backup. It is recommended that you take this backup on a different drive than the one on which Tally is installed. E.g. backup on floppies, CD or zip disk. |
The procedure for upgrading from Tally ees 6.3 to Tally 7.2 is different for Hardlock and Softlock users.
Tally ees 6.3 Hardlock users:
Single User
If you are a single user of Tally ees 6.3 Hardlock, follow these steps:
| 1. | Download a copy of Tally 7.2 from Tally website (www.tallysolutions.com) into a new folder on your computer and install it. |
| 2. | Edit Tallylicense and TallyLock related parameters in Tally.ini file as below: |
| 3. | Execute Tally. Tally displays READ-ONLY on the left and the old serial along with the release number, as shown in the figure below: |
4. Update the license from Gateway of Tally > F12:Configure > Licensing >
Online/Offline > Update. (Refer to Update License section for the procedure)
| 5. | Once the license is updated, you would get a popup message as shown below. As you can see from the screen, the new 7.2 serial number (9 digits) starting with 7 is displayed on the top right corner. |

6. To register your information you will have to fill the physical registration card and
send to the address mentioned in the card.
Multi User
If you are a multi user of Tally ees 6.3 Hardlock, then you need to install multi user edition of Tally 7.2 on the Server and Client computers. If you are a multi user of Tally ees 6.3 Hardlock, you can follow the same steps described in case of Tally Single users Hardlock, except that the parameters you set in Tally.ini file are different.
| 1. | The Tally.ini file (configuration settings) can be found in the newly created Tally directory. Open and edit this file on the server and at the nodes/ clients, with the details given in the next 2 steps. The default text in the Tally.ini file appears as shown in the below screen: |

| 2. | On the Server Computer: |
a. Edit the Tally.ini by adding 2 semicolons and specify the Tallylock path:
3. On the Client Computers:
a. Edit the Tally.ini file by adding 2 semicolons before TallyLicense = Connect
b. Enter the following details to specify the Tallylock path:
Tally ees 6.3 Softlock users:
Single User
If you are a single user of Tally ees 6.3 Softlock, follow these steps:
| 1. | Download a copy of Tally 7.2 from Tally website (www.tallysolutions.com) into a new folder on your computer and install it. |
| 2. | Execute Tally. You will get the Activation form. Enter the old serial number, Activation key and the email. |
| 3. | Once the activation is complete, you will get a message as Congratulations! Tally ies 7.2 is activated!. The new serial number is displayed on the top right corner. |

| 4. | Click on the button Register Yourself on the right to register Tally. Enter all the details required in the form that displays. You can use TAB to navigate to the next field. After completing the entries, place the cursor on Save button and press CTRL+S or press SPACE bar. This will open a confirmation dialog box Do you want to save the details?, a click on the OK button will Save the form. Confirmation note Contact Add/Updation successful will be displayed at the top of the screen. This note denotes that the content is saved successfully. |
| 5. | Click on the End Browser button on the right hand side of the Tally screen to close the Registration form. |
| 6. | Update the license from Gateway of Tally > F12:Configure > Licensing > Online/Offline > Update. After successful updation, you would see the message popup shown below: |

Note:
In case you forget to register after activating the license, you can always go to F12: Licensing and use the button Register Yourself found on the right side of the screen.
Multi User
If you are a multi user of Tally ees 6.3 Softlock, you can follow the same steps described in case of Tally Single user Softlock on the server computer
After activating the multi user version of Tally 7.2 on the server computer, edit Tally.ini file in the client computers and specify the Tallylicense server path.
Enter the name of the server and the port number on which TallyLiceseServer is running (Server Machine). Please note that Tally runs on port 9000 by default.

Check List
| • | Upon installing and updating license, check the following: |
| • | Load a company. Tally will prompt to rewrite the existing data in Tally 7.2 automatically. |
| • | Display the Statistics page. Match with the previously printed page. |
| • | Display Trial Balance. Match with the previous printed Trial Balance. |
| • | If both match, all is well. If they do not, you will have to assess the extent loss of data. |
| • | You are now ready to take advantage of the new Tally 7.2. |
Note: It is important that you keep a full copy of the folder containing the Tally ees 6.3 programs and data before you upgrade.
